The Ontario-Montclair School District serves more than 26,400 students in kindergarten through 8th grade. It is the second largest school district in the state. There are six functioning elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school and five private educational facilities in Montclair and the city is within minutes of the Claremont Colleges, California State Polytechnic University at Pomona and Chaffey Community College.

Montclair is one of many burgeoning communities to grow up by necessity between San Bernardino and Los Angeles in San Bernardino County. At its inception, San Bernardino County was home to the Gabrielino Indian culture, one of the largest concentrations of indigenous peoples on the North American continent. Spanish Franciscan missionaries named the future town site after the feast day of San Bernardino of Siena. When Mormon’s arrived in 1851, they laid out the present-day city. Active development of the land did not begin until the early 1900s. Montclair, originally named the City of Monte Vista, was incorporated on April 25, 1956.

Today, Montclair and the surrounding San Bernardino County is a transportation center, a commercial hub and a premier residential location with a widely diversified industrial base. Residents enjoy proximity to all the cultural and recreational amenities available in Los Angeles. Popular attractions in nearby San Bernardino include Heritage House, an exhibit of late 19th Century furnishings, and the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra. The Route 66 rendezvous and the National Orange Show Citrus Fair are exciting annual events. Montclair is home to a civic center, the Montclair Branch Library, 12 parks, 16 churches and a community center replete with a gymnasium, stage, weight room, spa and tennis courts. There is also a sports arena for baseball, racquetball, tennis, basketball, and soccer.
